Just moved to Tempe and have been loving how bike friendly it is. I have a similar thought to Henry and Diane, if the sticks are getting hit doesn’t that imply that they’re needed? If anything I’d like to see them do a sting and send the drivers who hit them to traffic school or even revoke their licenses. I mean if you can’t avoid stationary objects and you’re a danger to everyone on the road, drivers included.

If the candlesticks keep getting run over that’s a pretty good indication that they’re needed to keep cars out of the bike lane. Seems like a non-problem to me.

Overkill or not, the fact that they are battered just shows that drivers have complete disregard for the rules of traffic and just go in to that lane – even though there is a straight line so they shouldn’t.

I would not like to be a cyclist in their blind spot, if they cant even notice a candle stick let alone a bike?!

I do not like the candlesticks and it is dangerous. I like the old way better and we need more bike lane. I live near the candlesticks.

I would like to voice my opinion on the newly placed bike lane on mcclintock. Though I am a frequent bike rider and have enjoyed the many bike lanes throughout Tempe, I do feel that the candlestick are abit of an overkill. Given that I regularly travel mcclintock and rarely have noticed many bikers using the bike lane even prior to the new lane. There are places on the stretch that I feel they should of NOT placed the candlesticks at all due to it blocking businesses, however I do love that they did widen the bike lane a great deal especially since at times there is quite abit of traffic on mcclintock. A larger buffer zone between cars and bikers in my opinion is a good thing. So bravo for the bike lane, but the candlesticks not so much.
